roarin' and revvin’ in 2007

by colleen on January 1, 2007

the yearly rhyme tradition was begat by crust in the late nineties. the first one i can remember is “gonna date in ’98.” next was “wine and dine in ’99.” those were tasteful mantras, as one would expect from crust.

then i think beth and i got involved and it got a little freaknasty … “i need a lay in the Y2K.” then an unimaginative “havin’ fun in 2001.”

can’t remember what the next few years held for us. “tattoo you in 2002?” (we’re big stones fans) “close the door in 2004?” (reference to a bruce lee movie ‘way of the dragon’) … “stayin’ alive in 2005?” “in the mix in 2006?” (me being lame right now – strapped for better ideas).

anyways, we haven’t paid a lot of attention to the tradition of late. but i’ve decided to resurrect it this year. i just busted it out on a young dude in the elevator. it was about 11 am and i was headed down to do laundry in the basement. he was wearing a nice, wrinkled new year’s eve lookin’ outfit, and had messy hair and no coat. clearly the guy had had a good night.

he gave me a thumbs up and a frat-boyish “2007 … alright!”

i nodded and said, “roarin’ and revvin’ in 2007.”

he looked puzzled and asked what revvin’ means. i said you know, like a race engine. he liked it. he asked what 2006 was and i said i already forgot. he made up something about weapons of mass destruction and hans blix before running out of the elevator.

it was pretty funny, actually.

roarin’ and revvin’ in 2007 — pass it on.
