I get by with a little help from my friends
My best friends in the world came to visit this weekend. It was awesome. They are like siblings or cousins where you just want to be around them and talk and laugh and hang and wish it would never end. Erin and I are the single career girls living in NYC and San Fran. Beeth and Crust are the suburban wives/Moms living in ATL and Minneapolis. Steve is a lawyer in CT and a dedicated Dad and husband. We’re out of college 15 years now, and live very different lives, yet we have a shared sensibility that makes getting together such a treat. They are all good people, smart people, hilarious people. I am so proud and lucky to have them in my life.

They stayed in my nabe and we planned all activities to be relatively low key and close so there was no excessive schlepping or touristy bull. They got to see my teeny one bedroom in the East Village, meet Rufus (who proceeded to borderline maul my pregnant pal). We walked and ate. We caught up on life and laughs.

It felt so good to be around people who REALLY get me, and who love me not in spite of my flaws and quirks but because of them. While I didn’t know it until they arrived, I really needed that social reset after two months of going off the rails since my wrist injury. Without Yoga, my emotional and physical fitness has slipped and I’ve used that as an excuse to let a lot of things lapse. I’ve been eating poorly, watching too much TV, spending too much time on the Internet and losing focus. Time to get back on track, and Erin has agreed to be my abacus. It’s such a relief to have that kind of honest, deep relationship where you can be like, “Hey, I’m kind of a mess actually,” and the other person’s like, “Yeah, you’re not at your finest. Let’s help you get back on track – you always do.”
